Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan stated that the total addressable market for the company's CPUs, driven by the AI agentic market, could reach $200 billion over five years. Tan asserted that server CPU TAM, largely fueled by agentic workloads, could increase up to fivefold from its current $40 billion valuation. During the company's third quarter earnings call, Tan emphasized the energy efficiency of CPUs compared to GPUs for AI computing tasks.
He stated, "While GPU reasoning query run as high as multiple watt-hours of energy, a single CPU query could cost only joules of energy." Regarding the recent acquisition of quantum computing firm Classiq, Tan noted that the deal will enable Intel to become a "full stack revenue-generating" quantum computing company. Tan previously remarked about Classiq's "overarching hardware-agnostic software platform layer provides a gateway for more consumers to explore quantum computing."
He added that the acquisition is a "wonderful complement to our already strong internal quantum hardware and software stacks and enable us to further extend our compute platform offerings to include QPUs in addition to CPUs, GPUs, and ASICs." Tan also mentioned that he used agentic AI to conduct his "homework" by running AI agents overnight and reviewing their output in the morning.
