Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that enables users to deploy multiple agents into parallel workspaces to build software projects. The acquisition was first reported by Axios and confirmed by Meta to TechCrunch. Conductor, founded in 2024, provides agentic teams that can be deployed locally, in the cloud, or via mobile phones to help engineers work on compartmentalized parts of a project simultaneously. These agents are sourced from major labs such as OpenAI and Anthropic rather than being developed in-house.
Conductor CEO and founder Charlie Holtz announced the move on Wednesday, stating that the company has "big, crazy plans for the next interface" and intends to release something new for customers by early next year. Holtz noted he looks forward to working with Meta’s chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, the head of product at the company’s Superintelligence Labs.
While core features will remain functional for existing users until early next year, Conductor’s cloud service is scheduled to shut down on November 20. Following the shutdown, the company will begin deleting user cloud data.
The acquisition follows a period of aggressive AI expansion for Meta, which recently launched its own coding agent, Muse Code. Meta reported that its Muse agents have surpassed 10 million users and has previously acquired other AI-related entities, including the platform Moltbook.
