Palo Alto Networks Negotiates $500 Million Acquisition of Clutch Security

Palo Alto Networks is in talks to acquire Clutch Security, a startup specializing in securing AI agent access to corporate systems, for $500 million in cash plus milestone-based payouts, according to a person familiar with the discussions.

The three-year-old startup is currently approaching $10 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). This valuation represents approximately 50 times its ARR, a significant increase from its $85 million valuation following a $20 million Series A round in January 2025 led by Lightspeed and SignalFire.

If the deal is finalized, it would mark the seventh acquisition for Palo Alto Networks this year. The cybersecurity giant has increased its dealmaking activity in response to rising AI-driven cyberattacks, following the $500 million acquisition of Console in September.

Other recent acquisitions by Palo Alto Networks include Chronosphere for $2.95 billion, Embrace for $325 million, and Koi for $231 million, according to PitchBook and regulatory filings.

The potential deal comes amid a market trend of high valuations for AI security firms. For example, Cyera recently acquired Oasis Security, a competitor in the AI agent access space, for $1 billion, while Cisco purchased Astrix for roughly $400 million, according to Calcalist.
