Hardware startup Aina has announced the release of the Aina Ring, a titanium smart ring featuring a screen, a joystick, and a microphone designed to act as a controller for AI agents and digital applications. The device aims to streamline human interaction with proactive AI by allowing users to quickly approve or reject task suggestions through a small display and physical controls, rather than relying on smartphone screens.
Founder Apoorv Shankar stated that the device is intended to solve the bottleneck of having to manually interact with a phone every time an AI agent requests permission to complete a task. "Approvals are going to be the future of interfaces and interaction, and we wanted to build a device that just made it easy to approve stuff," Shankar said.
The ring utilizes a Context Aware Operating System to provide features called "Aina Cues." These cues use personal data such as location, calendar, and email to suggest actions, such as playing a specific podcast during a morning run or requesting an Uber for a commute. Users can also create custom cues using natural language or connect third-party AI agents like Muse or Instinct to handle tasks via virtual browsers.
Beyond AI interaction, the ring functions as a multi-purpose remote. It can control music playback via the joystick, manage smart home devices like Apple TV, and provide context-aware shortcuts for Mac applications, such as muting a camera during a Google Meet or Zoom call. The device also includes a speaker, allowing users to take phone calls by bringing their hand to their ear.
Aina, which raised $5.5 million in July, developed the ring based on lessons from its previous experimental controller, Mirage. The company plans to begin shipping the Aina Ring in January 2027. Pre-orders are available starting Thursday at an early-bird price of $399, after which the retail price will increase to $499.
